Ramparoni Roll

The name ramps (usually plural) is one of the many dialectical variants of the English word ramson, a common name of the European bear leek ( Allium ursinum ), a broad-leaved species of garlic much cultivated and eaten in salads, a plant related to our American species.

Here in West Virginia Ramps, a Garlicky Onion, have been used for many generations in many dishes. I myself love the smell, taste and simplicity of the ramp, but those who know, will tell you that they have a smell that linger for a while, be it on your skin of in your belly.

With that being said folks who love ramps tend to find many different ways to add the beloved ramp to different dishes. Since West Virginia is the home of the pepperoni Roll it seemed most fittin’ to add it to the wonderful Pepperoni Roll.

Anyone who knows Pepperoni Rolls knows that there are three types of pepperoni rolls here in West Virginia. Take for instance for have the Traditional that was created in Beautiful Fairmont West Virginia which is made with yeast dough and pepperoni cut into smaller stick sized pieces. The second type is more common throughout the Mountain state is paper thin slices like you would find on pepperoni pizza. The there is the third style, and this wonderful treat can be found in the home of the West Virginia Strawberry Festival, Buckhannon West Virginia, to be more specific the Donut Spot.

Here is the catch, if you wanna try this tasty treat, be prepared to stand in line as the Ramparoni Roll is only made for a short time in the spring and only in small batches. TRUST me when I tell you get there early and buy many of them because they run out really quickly. The Ramparoni Roll, a unique food from a sleepy little town with HUGE flavor!

Here is a simple yet effective way to keep your lips as well as other parts of your body from being dry and chapped.

Add one teaspoon of petroleum jelly in a bowl. Heat it in the microwave for 30 seconds. Mix in 3 drops of peppermint extract. Mix well. Pour in about one teaspoon of honey. Mix well. Add the mixture into a container with a lid. Let it set overnight. Leave the lid off. Test a little the next day. Apply with finger. If it has set sufficiently, it’s done. Put the lid on.

New entrance sign at Coopers Rock State Park

So with trout season in full swing and my beautiful wife just itching to get outdoors we decided to head out. As always she did her walking and I did some line wetting.
